For players who want to stand out from the crowd and look dapper in every cutscene, cloaks are one of the most sought-after items in Baldur's Gate 3. However, cloaks don't merely serve as stylish additions to one's outfit; many of them provide additional bonuses and effects that can turn the tides of battle, especially on harder difficulties.

The best BG3 cloaks and capes can complement specific playstyles, sometimes slotting in as the final piece of an overpowered build. As with other items of clothing, cloaks can also be dyed to many desired colors. While it's all well and good to know about the fine raiments players can don, it is crucial that gamers also know where to find the best cloaks in Baldur's Gate 3.

Updated June 20, 2024, by Joe Grantham: There is a wide variety of cloaks for players to uncover and sport in Baldur's Gate 3, and as the gear slot can't be filled by anything else, it makes sense for players to get one for each character they plan on using during their playthrough. Thus, with at least four required to kit out each active party member, this list has been updated to include even more cloaks for gamers to seek out and incorporate in their character builds. Whether players want to wear a cloak for style, defense, or to gain access to certain spells, there are plenty of options available.

12 Vivacious Cloak

Gain Temporary HP After Casting A Spell In Melee

• Location: Found in the Grand Mausoleum, Act 2.

Having extra health is always going to be a blessing, even if it's just temporary, and that's exactly what the Vivacious Cloak provides. The wearer will gain 8 Temporary HP for 4 turns after casting a spell while in melee, and this can make quite the difference on BG3's harder difficulties, where every bit of health counts. Players should bear in mind, however, that Temporary HP can only be gained from one source at a time.

To enshroud themselves in the Vivacious Cloak, players will want to enter the Grand Mausoleum during Act 2. After entering the Mausoleum, one can simply head east, and the cloak can be found waiting inside a chest.

11 Cindermoth Cloak

Enemies Who Attack In Melee Range Are Set On Fire

• Location: Looted from Aelis Siryasius in the Lower City Sewers, Act 3.

While some of the best cloaks in BG3 require players to actively make use of their effects, with the Cindermoth Cloak, players can simply sit back and watch their enemies set themselves on fire. When an enemy successfully attacks the wearer of this cloak within 2 m/ 7 ft, they will acquire the Burning effect, meaning that they take 1d4 Fire damage per turn.

To get their hands on this burning-hot cloak, players will need to kill Aelis Siryasius in the Lower City Sewers. Aelis is hard to miss as he is surrounded by many Grease Elementals, Grease Mephits, and Greaseballs. The ensuing fight will be rather explosive, though, so players should certainly come prepared, and having resistance to Fire damage can be a lifesaver.

10 Wavemother's Cloak

Protects Against Fire But Is Vulnerable To Cold & Lightning Damage

• Location: Found in The Water Queen's House in the Lower City, Act 3.

The Wavemother's Cloak can be a great option, but if players take it into the wrong fight, it can also be a death sentence. It grants resistance to Fire damage and completely stops the wearer from Burning. Thus, if players know they will be facing, for example, some of the best Fire spells in BG3, this cloak will prove to be incredibly useful.

However, it also makes the wearer vulnerable to both Lightning and Cold damage, meaning that they will take double the damage. While the suitability of the Wavemother's Cloak is based on a case-by-case scenario, players won't have to make these decisions until Act 3, when it is found in the Lower City. More specifically, it is found in the Water Queen's House, inside a chest.

9 The Deathstalker Mantle

Turn Invisible After Killing Enemies

• Location: Given to the Dark Urge after killing Alfira, Act 1.

The Deathstalker Mantle is an incredibly interesting cloak to use as it causes the wearer to turn invisible after securing a kill. This allows players to pull off all sorts of tricks, from sneaking away on super low health to repositioning behind enemies who are least expecting it. The invisibility lasts for two turns, and yet, this effect can be used once every turn, allowing for almost constant stealth.

The only catch with The Deathstalker Mantle is that it will only be given to the Dark Urge, and even then, the player will have to murder Alfira. Once it is in their possession, nothing stops them from granting it to other characters. It is given by Sceleritas Fel, a fiend who is integral to the Dark Urge's past.

8 Mantle Of The Holy Warrior

Grants A Spell That Gives Allies More Damage

• Location: Bought at the Stormshore Tabernacle, Act 3.

Unless players already have access to the Crusader's Mantle spell, then the Mantle of the Holy Warrior is a great cloak to pick up for one member of the party. While this is all the cloak grants, the Paladin spell is rather good as it can buff up all nearby allies to deal some extra Radiant damage.

The downside, however, is that players will need to wait until Act 3 to don this holy cloak, as it can only be purchased, quite appropriately, from the Vicar inside the Stormshore Tabernacle. This is a location inside the Lower City, near the Basilisk Gate waypoint.

7 Fleshmelter Cloak

Repel Enemies With Acid Damage

• Location: Found in the House of Healing Morgue, Act 2.

Seeing as many common enemies use melee attacks in Baldur's Gate 3, players will get plenty of use out of the Fleshmelter Cloak if they choose to wear it. This is because, for each attack, this horrifying cloak will return 1d4 Acid damage to the attacker.

Players with a desire to see their enemies' flesh melt can find the Fleshmelter Cloak in the House of Healing Morgue inside a Gilded Chest. While this is similar to the Cindermoth Cloak, it is arguably superior, as enemies are less likely to be resistant to Acid damage. On top of that, it can also be found in an earlier act.

6 Cloak Of Protection

A Great Defensive Cloak For Every Character

• Location: Bought at the Last Light Inn, Act 2.

Despite being Uncommon and fairly easy to acquire, the Cloak of Protection is arguably one of the best BG3 cloaks, as every single character can get great use out of it. With +1 AC, players will be less likely to be hit by attacks, and +1 to Saving Throws means they can also avoid many negative effects.

Players can purchase the Cloak of Protection at the Last Light Inn at the start of Act 2. It is sold by Quartermaster Talli for a fairly reasonable price.

5 Cloak Of Displacement

Become Harder To Hit

• Location: Bought at Danthelon's Dancing Axe, Wyrm's Crossing, Act 3.

If players already have a high AC from wearing the best Heavy Armor, then the Cloak of Displacement will make them even harder to hit. This is because enemies will have to roll twice on Attack Rolls and take the lowest number. While this is good for anyone, characters with high AC will benefit the most, as the effect ends once they are hit.

The Cloak of Displacement can be bought at Danthelon's Dancing Axe, a shop located on the bridge known as Wyrm's Crossing in Act 3.

4 Shade-Slayer Cloak

Land More Critical Strikes While In Stealth

• Location: Bought at the Guildhall in the Lower City Sewers, Act 3.

The Shade-Slayer Cloak is the perfect addition to any Rogue build in Baldur's Gate 3 or for any other character who wants to deal damage while hidden. This is because, while successfully hidden, players will be able to score critical strikes more easily.

To get their hands on this cloak, players must first reach Act 3 of the game, as the Shade-Slayer Cloak can be purchased in the Guildhall from Sticky Dondo. The Guildhall can be found in the Lower City Sewers.

3 Derivation Cloak

Heal When Poisoning Enemies

• Location: Balthazar's chambers in Moonrise Towers, Act 2.

On the shoulders of most characters, the Derivation Cloak is practically useless unless one has an ample supply of Basic Poison to coat their weapons with. However, if players have built their character around doing Poison damage, then this cloak instantly becomes overpowered.

This is particularly true if players can poison multiple enemies at once, allowing them to heal for even more HP. The cloak also happens to be a beautiful forest green that can complement many different looks. The Derivation Cloak can be found in Balthazar's chambers on the first floor of Moonrise Towers in Act 2. More specifically, it is inside a Heavy Chest.

2 Nymph Cloak

Turn An Enemy Into An Ally

• Location: Bought from Ferg Drogher in Rivington, Act 3.

The Nymph Cloak is an excellent cloak based on the Dominate Person spell it provides wearers with. If used correctly on a strong humanoid enemy, players will have a new temporary ally at their side. Even if this enemy doesn't do too well when attacking, using this spell will still result in there being one less foe to worry about, and other enemies may waste their attacks against the dominated person.

It also happens to be one of the best-looking cloaks in Baldur's Gate 3, and players can purchase it in Rivington, from Ferg Drogher at the start of Act 3. However, he will only sell this cloak and the rest of his special stock if Shadowheart refuses to renounce Shar or if she is not present.

1 Cloak Of The Weave

Perfect For Any Spell Caster

• Location: Bought at the Devil's Fee in the Lower City, Act 3.

Other than being one of the most beautiful cloaks in BG3, especially when dyed, the Cloak of the Weave is also one of the strongest (at least for any spell casters). The bonus it offers to Spell Attack Rolls means that players are more likely to hit their spells, and enemies will also have a harder time saving themselves from effects.

Additionally, the cloak also has a defensive element to it, allowing players to take less damage from the first fire, cold, etc. attack and then return some of the damage. The Cloak of the Weave can be purchased at the Devil's Fee shop, in the Lower City of Baldur's Gate. However, players must first unlock Helsik's special stock in order to get it.
